On Sunday 5th July, in sweltering temperatures of 38 degrees, former Contract Options employee Gary Farrell participated in the European Ironman Championships in Frankfurt, Germany.
For those who don’t know an Ironman consists or the following three legs: a 2.4 mile (3.86K) open water swim, a 112 mile (180k) bike ride and then a full marathon of 26.2 miles (42k)
Gary completed the course in 14 hours and 48 minutes an outstandingly impressive achievement especially considering it was his first full Ironman.
He travelled to Frankfurt to take part with three other local triathletes and the day was not plain sailing by any means. coming out of the water Gary found himself behind all three of his training mates. on the cycle leg he caught up and overtook one of them but really found his rhythm in the run, catching and overtaking the other two just 8.5 miles (13.6k) in and running the full distance in just 5 hours and 32 minutes. His swim leg was 1 hour 48 minutes and his Cycle 7 hours and 8 minutes.
Gary, without question has earned himself both Legend and Hero Status.
